Azraq has collated a new collection of reusable 3-layer pleated masks for adults and children. This adorable Green Seashells print is unisex and comes in a children's size, to match! They are handmade locally, reusable and washable, with adjustable straps.
The three layers are made of up to the following: two layers of 100% pure high-thread count cotton and one layer of 100% cotton flannel acting as a natural filter which scientists have found can filter more than 80% of particles smaller than 300 nanometres in diameter (coronavirus particles are between 80 and 120 nanometres). The masks have adjustable ear straps (using wooden beads), are breathable, reusable and very comfortable to wear. Flannel is dense enough to capture viral particles, but breathable enough that we can actually wear it.

When a person with a virus sneezes or coughs, they eject infected particles into the air. Saliva droplets are relatively large, ranging from one to five millimetres in size, and travel in a radius of around six feet from the source — this fact, of course, is the impetus behind the new social norm of retaining such distance from others in public. Coming into contact with virus-infected droplets on surfaces promotes the spread of disease, but the particles which dissolve into the air and remain suspended for long periods of time raise concerns of their own. These particles, called aerosols, can travel hundreds of meters through the air. Additionally, aerosols within 10 nanometers to 10 micrometers in size are respirable, which can be breathed into the lungs. Wearing a mask over the mouth and nose prevents inhalation of particles containing the virus which can be crucial to preventing infection.
Researchers say that while masks are important in fighting the spread of the disease, the material used to make handmade, reusable ones matters. Researchers and experts also found that the best overall natural filtration is provided by a sandwich consisting of two layers of tighter-woven cotton plus one layer of a fabric that holds a static charge: flannel (it creates an electrostatic filter). The enhanced performance of flannel is due to the combined effect of mechanical and electrostatic-based filtration. For example, while tightly woven cotton prevents particles from passing through gaps in the fibres, the flannel provides an electrostatic charge which traps particles.
An electrostatic layer is a vital component of a mask if the efficacy is to be close to that of an N95. The benefit of having an electrostatic layer is that it can trap liquid droplets and other particles based on charge rather than the pore size.

For hygiene reasons, masks are non-returnable. Please note: These masks are not surgical grade masks and will not prevent COVID-19 infection on its own. Wash before first use and after each use.
Before putting on a mask, clean your hands well with soap and water. Cover the mouth and nose with your mask and make sure there are no gaps between your face and the mask. Avoid touching the mask while using it and, if you do, wash your hands. Replace the mask when it is damp. To remove your mask, take it off using the ear-loops, without touching the front and place directly into the washing machine.
Wash your mask after each use, at 60 degrees. Iron / steam your mask after washing. Do not tumble dry.
